How much does timing matter when you're applying to a job? We analyzed 130,684 applications with interview outcomes and the answer was not what we expected. 3–5 day old listings have an interview rate of about 1.20%, but interview rates effectively plateau for jobs anywhere from 5–60 days old. Yes, people are really waiting months to get a job. It's gone very K-shaped. Some people struggling for months, some are over-employed. I operate a service that helps people find jobs they're interested & qualified for and fills out the applications automatically. Based on our data interview rates are about 1% and the interview process itself usually takes a month or more. That may well be true, the fidelity of our data for this analysis only goes down to 12 hours because of lag time between when a job gets posted and the maximum time it could take to get into our system. e.g. if we scrape daily, then a job added to our system is 24 hours old in the worst case.
