I made a cuties. What should I do next @christineist? Vouch for friends? If I make one friend through this platform I will be extremely happy and I will tweet all about it. Also is there an app? Couldn’t find anything by searching the app store https://t.co/y1mWcu0vWr

Had a rough few days traveling thru Malaysia. Polluted air, brutal public spaces, car dominant culture, extreme processed-food culture, and all I could see from the windows of busses and trains were palm oil farms and tracts of identical single family homes

I feel like the relationship many people have to the concept of "The Economy" is the same as the so-called primitive mind to their rain god or whatever other supernatural force. It's a fuzzy, poorly understood thing that will punish us if we accidentally upset it

Abt to head to a temple after lunch, waiter comes to tell me thru Google translate wait 20 min to watch a procession of people coming to the shop from a shrine. I tell him about my temple plans, he lives near there and is gonna give me a ride after the procession. ty universe 🤝

I imagined my ideal physical tech stack and Claude + Codex brought it to life. A WiFi/LTE/5G audio transmitter for LLM voice chats, a foldable handheld monitor (not a phone), & an air-gapped device for passwords and payments. Most satisfying thing I’ve made w/ AI. Yesterday I finished an 11 day journey by train from Singapore to Chiang Mai, with many stops along the way. All legs of the Thai portion of the journey were on local third class trains and were about $17 combined https://t.co/rcehHXpCZI

Stranger on the train gave me some peanuts. They’re purple, slightly sweet, and have the texture of a perfectly cooked chickpea. I guess they’re steamed instead of roasted? And maybe harvested early? Anyways they’re awesome. We’re tossing the shells out the window https://t.co/k1G7xpyChi

Been thinking lately there’s a correlation between a country’s resistance to colonization and how interesting it is to visit (tho no disrespect to countries that lost to colonizers). They tend to have a strong national identity + coherent borders, not zig zags drawn by colonizers

@ledflyd Interesting. Just looked it up and am realizing most coffee in America and globally is actually arabica. Maybe I am just used to drinking heavily roasted coffee and thought it was robusta bc the flavors are not as subtle

@TVachaW Hi Vacha thanks for sharing this. Interesting take. Broadly speaking, how do you feel about the use of psychedelic plants and/or fungi in terms of their relative alignment with or utility on the Buddhist path? Wb others plants, like cacao & tobacco? Or non-plants, e.g. mdma?

@TVachaW Thanks makes sense. I read recently that a traditional Buddhist view is that certain beings, having attained divinity thru reincarnation (i.e. gods), are earth-dwelling, immortal, & can inhabit plants (like a bodhi tree). Sounds correlated with the idea of so-called plant spirits

Like the coding bootcamps of the 2010s, I think we will have massive bootcamps for basic math and science in coming years, as there will be endless demand for humans to level up and evaluate the work of AI. That’s an exciting future to look forward to. Why?
Oct 17
0010—
500
2. We’re going to need a lot more mathematicians: as AI generates plans for new physical tech with real physical risks, large teams of humans will be required to evaluate each new tech tree (because of course only humans can be held accountable) https://t.co/ANBfdH5KZL
Oct 17
0010—

Two related things I read recently that give me optimism: 1. Coding is not solved: in short, AI can be held responsible but only humans can be held accountable. Companies of humans need teams of humans evaluating AI actions because of legal liability https://t.co/IWZJHqrwKm

People talk about c.1900-1970 as a period of major economic growth due to low-hanging-fruit innovation from discoveries in physics. Seems like we're in a new era of low hanging fruit where LLMs generate way more useful knowledge than a single company can operationalize

Basically: if you don’t want to work, fine, bc AI makes everything ridiculously cheap. If you do want to work, great. You can get paid to learn more math and physics or whatever area of STEM you’re interested in so you can go work with a team of humans to evaluate new tech trees

Looked into it. Hard to make sense of. The few existing studies show anywhere between 2-400x and most studies only look for certain particles, like >10 microns, >1 micron, or <100nm.
