I am, yet again, urging you to spend more time listening to jazz musicians talk about music and just replace the word "jazz/music" with the word "life". Great lessons there. https://t.co/nfUAuQwlto

There's a whole bunch of people that believes that live music and recorded music sound the same because a lot of artists just play their records live and it makes me sad that they won't get to experience the wonders of hearing a great song transcending itself in a live version. https://t.co/7YKpaIjujg

Since this blew up while I was teaching classes: I was a jazz musician before I injured my wrist and shifted into education, helping bring about a Modern Golden Age. Jazz plays a huge role in how I think about things, so follow me if all of this seems interesting to you!

I had never seen Dead Poets Society until yesterday. I know, it's shocking. Especially because it showcases how much an educator loves teaching for that specific age group. "Independent thinking at 17? Impossible!" is exactly the kind of BS I want to prove wrong. Peak. https://t.co/GztC5iKI7z

I don't think people can fully understand how much my emotional core is connected to some of the music in this show. I know, I know, I have been talking too much about Naruto, but you have to understand I'm deep in a process of understanding myself, and it ties a lot to this. https://t.co/LoTnDLeL5d

For the past few weeks, every Friday, I've been going for a run, and at a given point, I'll blast music at full volume, run as fast as I can, and think about my late grandma. So far, this has been the best griefing method I've found. Really cathartic.

There is a huge market for people who do this at a national level and focus on SME. I was talking with a friend who's building this for Portuguese companies, and I really think it's going to be a huge success. https://t.co/HWjf5ypfq9

I tried to surprise my gf by making sure she had a fresh loaf of homemade bread when she arrived home from work and then I left work and found homemade oatmeal bars with machademia nuts, cranberries, and cashews. Show-off. πŸ˜’

I love it when students want their peers to be better. This is one of the most underutilized assets of an educator. Give those students more space, let them lead the class, and encourage others to bring a different leadership voice to the conversation.

I had a friend message me saying that Modern Golden Age is an oxymoron, which just proves the point I made in my last essay on why we must rethink our definition of a Golden Age. https://t.co/QZLOd2J7RZ

And yet, most people refrain from engaging with music at a deeper level, choosing instead to become passive listeners. But what if we decided to try to become more active listeners?

He challenges them to do all sorts of exercises, write their own poems, and, of course, create the actual society where they get to try their own stuff. I love Socratic, but it's not the only thing that works. Sometimes a great lecture can be just as transformative. Also, the thing I enjoyed the most was his passion for education and students, more than the actual methodology.

@milomortuaryx That's even worse... It's like a train wreck. It's not good, but you can't stop looking. I can understand the will to try to shock people through terrible taste. I recognize the effort of it, without actually enjoying the outcome. Does that make sense?

My problem with what is happening in France is the same as I have with many of the protests that happen in all parts of the world. People can use it to pursue selfish acts while being covered by a general positive cause.

Music is, I argue, a fundamental part of the human experience. Who hasn't been deeply moved by a specific piece in a given period of time? Music can help us process emotions, change our moods, grieve in peace, make new friends or enemies, and fall in love, to name a few.

A post like this makes me beam with gratefulness from the fact that I was always very public with what I like. I ended up in a position where sharing that I'm an "anime kid" is actually a strength (most students I teach really love anime, and it's easy to bond over that). https://t.co/BiWG3BKW2t

When given the chance, as Aaron Coopland argues, most composers would ask 2 questions of their listeners: Are you hearing everything that is going on? Are you really being sensitive to it? https://t.co/mSzwPoWeHK

It's really interesting how many basic skills at the emotional level people who are really, really successful still miss on a day-to-day basis. And it's not that they don't know about the actual skills, but they struggle to understand how to turn that into daily practice.
